The Medical House PLC (TMH) is a group of companies
which specialises in the design, development, licensing and
supply of innovative medical devices for global pharmaceutical
and biotechnology industry clients.
TMH's activities are primarily focused on drug
delivery technologies (through Medical House Products Ltd).
These activities are supported by in-house design and rapid
prototyping capabilities (through Creative Medical Design Ltd).
Founded in 1998, TMH was admitted to London
Stock Exchange's Alternative Investment Market (A.I.M.) in 2000.
The group's quality management systems are
certified as compliant with ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 13485:2003
and several of its medical device products have successfully
achieved European CE-mark and United States FDA 510(k) regulatory
approvals.
Drug Delivery Systems - Medical House Products Ltd
Pharmaceutical companies increasingly need
to differentiate their injectable products, often combining
them with enhanced delivery systems. By incorporating such
products within a disposable autoinjector these companies
can achieve a cost-effective and convenient means for patients
to self-inject. TMH's proprietary disposable autoinjector
technology, the AutoSafety Injector (ASI), continues to attract
the attention of pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients
worldwide. The ASI has already been the subject of licensing
agreements with partners including Catalent Pharma Solutions,
Cardinal Health, a European government agency and a currently-undisclosed
global pharmaceutical company.
The ASI incorporates a pre-filled syringe
and combines the benefits of ease-of-use, safety, convenience
and cost effectiveness, whilst also addressing patients’
aversion to needles. The ASI’s simple design enables
rapid commercialisation programmes for licensees and partners.
The ASI capitalises on an industry trend towards the use of
pre-filled syringes for self-injection of drugs, with annual
sales of pre-fillable syringes are approaching 2 billion.
Among the many drugs self-injected for a variety of disorders
are those for treatment of multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid
arthritis, hepatitis, Crohn’s Disease, migraine, blood
clotting, allergic reaction and infertility.
Recent developments of the ASI technology
platform include a specific version for delivering viscous
drugs, such as sustained release formulations.
Medical House Products has also created a
new proprietary needle-free jet injector for MerckSerono.
Needle aversion often means that patients are reluctant to
comply with their prescribed therapy which can cause their
treatment to be less effective. The primary benefits of needle-free
injectors are to encourage better patient compliance with
a given treatment regimen, with obvious benefits to the patient
and the healthcare provider, and to avoid injury caused by
contaminated needles.
